For our second meeting, we were supposed to go cookie blitzing but they didn’t arrive in time so we had our girls plan our upcoming camp instead. They got to decide on activities: indoor and outdoor games, crafts and free time were requested. We also had them plan their meals which made for some wonderful conversations.
Guide: “Let’s have hamburgers and hot dogs.”
Me: “Ok. Do you want veggies with that?”
Guide: “Caesar salad!”
Guide 2: “Let’s have Caesar salad and steak!”
Me: “That might make the price of your camp go up!”
Guide 3: “I don’t know how to cook steak!”
Me: “That could also be a problem.”
Guide 2: “We have to cook!?!?!?”
Me: “Who else is going to do it?”
Guide 2: “You”
Guide 2: “But at home my Mom cooks for me”
Me: “Welcome to Guides!”
It sounds like we’re going to be having lots of good food. If my memory serves me right there will be some tacos, grilled cheese and soup, pancakes, bacon, s’mores and some other stuff I can’t remember.
After planning we went around the circle and had each girl tell us one rule she thought we should have in Guides. There quite a rowdy bunch (but really, what group isn’t when deciding between banana boats and s’mores) so we also had a discussion about respect and not talking at the same time as someone else.
My favourite “rule” that came out of the discussion was: “If this were French school, one of the rules would be ‘On toujours parle en francais.'” Apparently a bunch of them go to French immersion school 🙂
We finished off the night by playing Streets and Alleys and Telephone.
